Martinez releases statement to clarify outburst - but does not apologise

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez addressed his explosive post-match criticism of the club’s leadership following Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid, though he stopped short of offering a direct apology. In an Instagram statement, Martínez acknowledged his frustration stemmed from the team’s failure to secure a result, emphasizing his deep passion for the club and its high standards.

He reiterated his belief in collective responsibility among players and staff to elevate Manchester United’s performance, while also stressing the need for greater ambition and resources to compete at the elite level. His remarks specifically targeted the club’s summer transfer strategy and singled out technical director Jason Wilcox, though he framed his comments as a call for unity and progress rather than outright blame.
