The Seattle Mariners are actively pursuing four experienced managers as they seek to replace Dan Wilson, prioritizing leadership and stability after a long stretch without an external hire. Among the frontrunners is Houston Astros bench coach Dusty Baker’s protégé, A.J.
Hinch, whose contract expires following the Astros’ Wild Card exit. Hinch, who managed Houston to two AL West titles and a 256–229 record over three seasons, also served as bench coach during the Astros’ 2022 World Series victory.
Another top candidate is Rocco Baldelli, the former Minnesota Twins manager who led the team to three AL Central titles and a 527–505 record before being let go after the 2025 season. Baldelli, who previously played in the majors and held coaching roles with the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox, spent this year in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ front office.
The Mariners are also considering Brandon Hyde, who transformed the Baltimore Orioles from a rebuilding team into a contender, including a 101-win campaign and AL Manager of the Year honors in 2023. Hyde’s experience developing young talent like Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson adds to his appeal, while the Mariners’ interest in these candidates reflects a shift toward proven major-league leadership after a decade without such a hire.
