Marcus Mariota injured, third-string quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis in for Commanders

Washington faced a major personnel hurdle during their international matchup in the British capital. Backup signal-caller Marcus Mariota exited the contest during the opening period after absorbing a heavy lower-body collision from Indianapolis defender Laiatu Latu.

Team medical staff evaluated the veteran for a right knee issue, leaving his potential return listed as questionable. With regular starter Jayden Daniels already sidelined due to an elbow problem, the coaching staff turned to rookie late-round draft pick Athan Kaliakmanis to direct the offense.
