San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini was ruled out late on Monday, October 5, due to a lower-body issue, missing the team's matchup against the Dallas Stars. Although the 20-year-old participated in pre-game warmups, the club confirmed his absence before the puck dropped, with Alex Wennberg stepping in on the top line.
The Sharks suffered a 5-0 defeat, marking their first loss of the season after previously winning two games in which Celebrini recorded five assists. The young star had recently broken Joe Thornton's franchise single-season scoring record with 115 points and signed an eight-year contract extension carrying an $18.8 million cap hit, making him the league's highest-paid player at the time.
He was also named the youngest captain in the organization's history. Coach Ryan Warsofsky indicated that no definitive diagnosis was available immediately following the loss, noting that the player remained in the building for further evaluation over the next day.
