Tropicana Field buzzed with nostalgia Monday night as the Tampa Bay Rays pushed toward a 2026 World Series berth, marking the 18th anniversary of their last American League pennant run in the same stadium. Among the crowd were two former Rays stars who know that feeling firsthand: pitcher Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Randy Arozarena, both members of the 2020 team that reached the Fall Classic.
Glasnow, now with the Dodgers, was traded away before the 2024 season, while Jonny DeLuca—acquired in that deal—delivered a sacrifice fly to give Tampa Bay an early lead in Game 6 of the ALCS against Cleveland. The emotional atmosphere extended beyond the field, as Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk attended to support his childhood friend and Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda, the two having played Little League together in Tijuana, Mexico.
Aranda called Kirk a brother and cited last year’s World Series moment between them as motivation for his own postseason push.
