Lions restructure contracts of two stars. What it means
Ahead of their regular-season opener against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field, the Detroit Lions have adjusted the contracts of offensive tackle Penei Sewell and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
These adjustments unlocked $30 million to $35 million in financial flexibility, propelling Detroit to the league's second-highest reserve of salary cap room as the franchise looks to rebound from failing to qualify for the postseason during the 2025-26 run.
In addition to the financial restructuring, the organization parted ways with veteran defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike and an unnamed first-year interior lineman just prior to the start of the 2026 campaign. Meanwhile, the club continues to assess a potential new deal for tight end Sam LaPorta, as offensive coordinator Drew Petzing has voiced notable admiration for St.
