The Pittsburgh Panthers extended their undefeated streak to five games after surviving a tight contest against the Virginia Tech Hokies, securing a 35-33 victory on Friday evening. The dramatic finish came down to the final three seconds when the hosts missed a 36-33 field goal attempt from 36 yards out, allowing the visitors to escape with the win.
Quarterback duties for the winning side were shared between Mason Heintschel and Holden Geriner, who threw touchdown passes alongside rushing scores from Ja’Kyrian Turner, Damon Ferguson Jr., and La’Vell Wright.
At halftime, the Hokies held a 24-21 advantage before being outscored 14-9 in the closing half of regulation. Cataurus Hicks contributed significantly to the offensive effort with three receptions totaling 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
With their record now standing at 5-0, the Panthers will return to their home field next week to face the North Carolina Tar Heels on October 10.
