Lane Kiffin's tenure in Baton Rouge suffered a significant setback on Saturday when the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the LSU Tigers 31-13 at Tiger Stadium. The defeat leaves the Tigers with a 6-3 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play, causing their College Football Playoff odds to plummet by over 20 percentage points.
Their likelihood of advancing to the SEC Championship Game has also collapsed from 16.7% to just 2.2%, effectively ending their title aspirations for the season.
LSU struggled to convert key opportunities, including a batted-down fourth-down pass from the Alabama nine-yard line and an incomplete attempt from the 36. Although the home crowd rallied after the Tigers took a 13-10 lead in the third quarter, Keelon Russell, playing through a taped ankle, responded with a 57-yard reception by Rico Scott and a subsequent 25-yard score to Cederian Morgan.
The team now faces a critical stretch starting with a home game against Texas, followed by road trips to Tennessee and Arkansas, where they must win all three to keep any playoff hopes alive.
