Philadelphia 76ers defeated the New York Knicks 106-100 on Tuesday in their season opener. Tyrese Maxey led all scorers with 28 points, while LeBron James and Jaylen Brown made their Philadelphia debuts, contributing 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists for James and 19 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for Brown.
Despite a poor shooting percentage of 41.9% from the field and 27.5% from beyond the arc, the 76ers earned the win through a strong second-half performance, including an 11-0 run to end the third quarter, capped by a Maxey three-pointer.
The New York Knicks, who celebrated their first NBA title in 53 years with a pregame ceremony and gold-trimmed uniforms, struggled with a shooting percentage of 37.2%. Jalen Brunson scored 21 points on 6 of 19 shots, while Karl-Anthony Towns had 19 points in 24 minutes of play due to foul trouble.
Andre Drummond stepped in as the backup center, recording 12 points and 14 rebounds in 24 minutes. Although the Knicks cut the lead to one point twice in the final three minutes, they could not overcome the 76ers' lead, which never exceeded nine points.
