Kieron Pollard, a cricketer whose name has long been intertwined with Mumbai Indians, has made a surprising move to the Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 Season 5 auction. After 13 seasons with MI—including five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 wins—Pollard was released by the franchise and acquired by the Super Kings for R1.5 million.
His departure marks the end of a 16-year association that began in 2010, when Mumbai Indians secured him in a high-stakes auction after a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Kolkata Knight Riders pushed his price to the $750,000 cap. Pollard’s impact extended beyond the IPL, with stints in Major League Cricket (MI New York) and the ILT20 (MI Emirates), as well as leadership roles in SA20 with MI Cape Town, where he scored 187 runs at a strike rate of 185.15 in 2024 before returning midway through 2026 as Rashid Khan’s replacement.
