A bankruptcy judge has cleared the way for LIV Golf’s restructuring under new ownership, approving a $300 million financing package led by private equity firm BC Partners. The deal secures the league’s future beyond this season, when its Saudi-backed funding expires, while also introducing player equity stakes in the revamped LIV Golf 2.0.
Under the agreement, players will hold 52.5% ownership, with BC Partners and minority investors controlling 45%, and management retaining 2.5%. The court’s approval, however, does not finalize the broader reorganization plan or address outstanding claims beyond limited sponsor protections, leaving key details unresolved for now.
The hearing also saw LIV Golf reject contracts for 19 players, including Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson, a standard bankruptcy procedure. Meanwhile, the league’s legal team raised concerns over the DP World Tour’s recent policy requiring players to pledge exclusivity to its circuit in 2027—a move LIV Golf’s attorney called an attempt to disrupt its player negotiations.
Judge Michael B. Kaplan signaled agreement, noting the timing of the DP World Tour’s stance appeared deliberately obstructive to LIV’s restructuring efforts.
