10 thoughts about Hulu’s ‘The Land’ about the Cleveland Browns

Hulu’s upcoming dramedy *The Land* dives into the chaotic duality of the Cleveland Browns franchise, blending on-field desperation with off-field power struggles. At its core, the show follows head coach Danny Roarke—a beleaguered leader clinging to his final season—who must navigate the pressure of drafting his own son as the team’s quarterback, a scenario so absurd it feels ripped from a sports satire.

Meanwhile, owner Hal Durkin faces a high-stakes family feud over which of his two daughters will inherit control of the franchise, mirroring the Browns’ long history of ownership missteps and fan frustration over sustained underperformance. The premise leans into the franchise’s reputation for dysfunction, with the front-office drama grounded in a *Succession*-style sibling rivalry that feels eerily plausible for a team that has spent decades in the NFL’s cellar.

Adding to the intensity is the casting of Christopher Meloni as Roarke, whose brooding intensity and self-destructive single-mindedness perfectly embody the archetype of a coach who’d sacrifice everything for a 7-10 record—no matter how many seasons it takes.
