Jos Buttler blasts England to world No 1 spot in T20s with Sri Lanka whitewash

Jos Buttler sealed a commanding eight-wicket victory with a one-handed maximum, ensuring England completed a whitewash over Sri Lanka and surpassed India to claim the world No 1 ranking in T20 cricket. Playing with an unaltered lineup under the autumn sun at Old Trafford, the hosts secured their seventh win against Sri Lanka this year, chasing down the target with over ten overs remaining.

The triumph marked the 23rd win in 26 completed fixtures for Harry Brook since assuming the captaincy.

England set the tone in the field, highlighted by Brook's diving two-handed catch at short midwicket to dismiss Pathum Nissanka. Liam Dawson coordinated with Jofra Archer to execute a clean run-out against Eshan Malinga, while Jamie Overton guarded the boundary to cut off Kamil Mishara's lofted shot.
