World No. 1 golfer Jon Rahm has officially exited LIV Golf, marking a significant setback for the struggling breakaway league amid its financial and operational turmoil.
Rahm’s decision was confirmed during a bankruptcy hearing on Wednesday, where his legal team stated he had rejected LIV’s proposed terms for its 2027 relaunch, known as LIV 2.0. The Spanish superstar, who stands to earn over $100 million from his existing contract, deemed the league’s restructuring offer unacceptable and will not participate moving forward.
LIV’s future remains uncertain after the Saudi-led investment group abruptly halted its 2026 season, canceled events, and laid off most staff before filing for bankruptcy—leaving Rahm’s contract as one of the few unresolved agreements in the proceedings. Negotiations between Rahm’s representatives and LIV are now underway to finalize a consensual separation by October 15, though a court hearing on November 5 could determine the outcome if no deal is reached.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour has reiterated its stance that it will not entertain discussions with current LIV players, including Rahm, until their contracts with the rival league are fully terminated. His departure follows Brooks Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour earlier this year, though Rahm reportedly declined a similar opportunity when offered.
