Golden State Valkyries forward Janelle Salaün has made history by unanimously capturing the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year award, receiving all seventy-four ballots from the media panel. After starting nearly every match the prior year, the twenty-five-raising French player transitioned to a reserve role for all forty contests this season, topping all bench scorers with 12.7 points per game and establishing single-season league marks for a reserve with 509 total points and 93 three-pointers.
Surrounded by her teammates in the locker room who lifted her from her seat in celebration, Salaün learned she earned the organization's inaugural honor for bench production. Her stellar shooting percentages helped propel the Valkyries to the number two playoff seed following a first-round victory over Dallas, setting up a postseason series against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces.
