James Franklin and Pat Narduzzi were rivals for years. Now, they'll face off again

James Franklin and Pat Narduzzi are set to cross paths once again when Virginia Tech squares off against Pittsburgh on Friday, October 2, 2026. Both coaches bring undefeated records into this Week 5 ACC clash, which carries significant early implications for the conference championship race.

Although their long-standing history includes notable friction from their days leading Penn State and Pittsburgh respectively—such as a contentious 2016 matchup—Narduzzi minimized any personal animosity ahead of the game, emphasizing that players determine the outcome rather than coaches stepping into a boxing ring.
