Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk made history in a One Day Cup clash between South Australia and Queensland by smashing the fastest fifty ever recorded by an Australian player in official cricket. The 24-year-old opener reached his half-century in just 14 balls during South Australia’s innings, where he went on to score an explosive 122 runs off 63 deliveries, including 10 fours and 9 sixes.
His blistering start helped South Australia post a competitive total of 397 for 7 wickets in Adelaide. Fraser-McGurk’s record-breaking knock also marked his third fastest fifty among Australian batters, surpassing his own previous bests in the Indian Premier League, where he had previously hit two 15-ball fifties.
While he fell short of the all-time fastest List A fifty—held by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s 11-ball effort—his 14-ball achievement now stands as the quickest by an Australian across all formats, including T20s and first-class cricket.
