Jacob Bridgeman is on an impressive roll this fall, extending his recent success with a commanding start at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan. The 26-year-old American shot an 8-under 63—his lowest opening round of the season—at Yokohama Country Club, taking a one-stroke lead over Jordan Smith and a two-stroke advantage over Ricky Castillo, Pierceson Coody, and Mac Meissner.
Bridgeman’s form has been exceptional, including a 61 in his last stroke-play round at the Biltmore Championship Asheville and a clutch putt for the U.S. team at the Presidents Cup.
His putting prowess was on full display Thursday, with four consecutive birdies and a total of five strokes gained on the greens, reinforcing his status as the PGA Tour’s top putter this season. Despite describing his round as anything but effortless, Bridgeman credited disciplined ball-striking and smart recovery for his strong performance, though he acknowledged areas for improvement on the practice range.
Meanwhile, Meissner, chasing his first Tour title, struggled early with his putter before rallying to a 65, including an eagle at the par-5 fourth hole after a slow start.
