Two-time DP World Tour champion Eddie Pepperell has weighed in on the struggles of LIV Golf, arguing that the league’s ambitious schedule and direct rivalry with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour were fundamental flaws. Pepperell suggested that LIV Golf could have thrived as a supplementary event series rather than a full-fledged competitor, proposing a condensed format of 10 exhibition-style tournaments over a weekend in major global cities.
This approach, he believes, would have allowed players to participate without sacrificing their eligibility for the established tours, potentially earning support from tour leaders like DP World Tour CEO Keith Pelley and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan instead of resistance. The league’s current model, however, has faced mounting challenges, with key players such as Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, and Adrian Meronk expected to depart ahead of the 2027 season, further raising doubts about its long-term viability after the Saudi-backed funding withdrawal earlier this year.
Rahm’s exit, in particular, could signal the beginning of the end for LIV Golf 2.0, which has already lost Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed to other circuits.
