MotoGP rider Jack Miller has sharply criticized riders who skip promotional events, emphasizing that no one is exempt from new penalties introduced for missing mandatory appearances. The series announced a €5,000 fine for riders absent from activities like the Hero Walk autograph session, a rule that follows Marc Márquez’s decision to send a stunt double to a pre-race karting event in Japan.
While Márquez cited an injured shoulder as his reason for skipping the event, Miller argued that collective participation is essential, stating that riders must uphold standards together or risk damaging the sport’s image. The Australian, who will transition to World Superbikes in 2027, also highlighted the growing demands on riders’ time, calling for higher compensation if promotional obligations continue to expand.
Despite his tough stance, Miller acknowledged that racing remains the core of MotoGP, though he questioned the balance between on-track competition and off-track commitments under the evolving 2027 format.
