Florida State has made a dramatic shift in its football program by firing head coach Mike Norvell after seven seasons, following a disappointing 3-5 start to the 2026 campaign. The Seminoles parted ways with Norvell after a 36-24 home loss to Clemson, a result that seemingly sealed his fate.
In a move to stabilize the program, the university has named Rick Stockstill—the former Florida State quarterback—as the interim head coach. Stockstill’s appointment comes with significant financial implications, as the school will incur a roughly $50 million buyout, one of the largest in college football history.
The Seminoles now look to Stockstill to guide them through the remainder of the season, including a potential bowl game, as they attempt to regain their footing after Norvell’s polarizing tenure.
