During the second fixture of the bilateral ODI series on Tuesday, September 30, India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to field first against West Indies. Gill pointed out that the surface featured extra grass coverage and anticipated favorable conditions for seam bowlers early on.
To exploit the conditions, the Indian team management brought in debutant Auqib Nabi to replace all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in the starting lineup. Reddy had featured in the opening match at Thiruvananthapuram, where he delivered five overs and claimed a single wicket while conceding 45 runs.
