India has included Naman Dhir in the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies starting September 27, 2026. The all-rounder earned his selection as a finisher and off-spinner to cover for Washington Sundar while he participates in the Asian Games.
However, former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has expressed doubt regarding Dhir's chances of breaking into the squad for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa due to strong competition and uncertain spinner quotas. Dhir recently posted impressive domestic numbers, accumulating 655 runs at a 217.61 strike rate in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League alongside seven List-A wickets across eight matches.
The three-match tour opens at Thiruvananthapuram before heading to Gawahati on September 30 and concluding in New Chandigarh on October 3. While Karthik acknowledged that the call-up rewards Dhir's strong domestic performances and Mumbai Indians stint, he cautioned that immediate opportunities at the global tournament level will remain difficult to secure given Sundar's established status in the side.
