Houston Astros part ways with manager Joe Espada

The Houston Astros have dismissed manager Joe Espada following three seasons at the helm, during which the team compiled a 256-229 record. Despite never winning more than 88 games in a single campaign, Espada’s leadership kept the Astros competitive, guiding them to two postseason appearances in 2023 and 2024.

Both playoff runs ended in the wild-card round, however, as Houston went 0-4 in postseason play under Espada’s direction. The decision comes after reports indicated Espada had been granted permission to interview for the Seattle Mariners’ managerial vacancy.

Alongside the change, the Astros announced they are retaining key coaching staff, including pitching coach Josh Miller, first-base coach Dave Clark, and several other assistants, while offering bench coach Omar López a new role within the organization.
