Ahead of the upcoming player auction for the Women's Premier League, the Mumbai Indians franchise decided to part ways with young wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini. This roster adjustment was finalized on September 28, forming part of a broader set of six player releases as the team plans for the 2027 tournament.
The upcoming auction is scheduled to take place in Kochi on October 28.
The primary factor behind the decision involves a scheduling overlap between the WPL window and the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup, which will take place in Nepal and Bangladesh. Because Kamalini is eligible for the junior global tournament, retaining her could have meant losing her services for a substantial portion of the league season.
Despite her youth, she already boasts senior international experience, having contributed to India's Women's Asia Cup victory in Dubai and their gold medal run at the Asian Games in Japan.
