Former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo has weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding heavyweight Alex Pereira, accusing the Brazilian of developing an entitled mindset after receiving accelerated opportunities in the promotion. Pereira, who is set to face Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335 in a five-round co-main event, has been vocal about his frustration over being passed over for an immediate rematch against heavyweight title contender Ciryl Gane.
His criticism extends to referee Herb Dean, whom he has repeatedly called for to be fired, and the UFC’s decision to headline UFC 334 with Gane vs. Josh Hokit instead of a Kayla Harrison vs.
Amanda Nunes rematch. Pereira has also questioned Gane’s rise, citing a controversial eye poke against Tom Aspinall and alleged illegal strikes in their previous bout.
Cejudo, however, argues that Pereira’s complaints stem from being ‘spoiled’ by the UFC’s fast-tracking of his career since his 2021 debut, noting that he lost his title shot against Gane despite legitimate grievances over illegal blows. Daniel Cormier has also pushed back against Pereira’s claims, insisting he was not pressured by the UFC to promote Gane vs.
Hokit as the main event.
