‘Sluggernaut’ Jonny Parsons wonders: To slug, or not, in UFC return?

Jonny Parsons, known as 'The Sluggernaut,' is set to return to the UFC after an extended 40-month layoff, marking his first fight since a standout knockout victory over Danny Roberts in July 2023. The welterweight, who had signed with the promotion in 2017 but faced delays in his debut, will face Jose Souza at UFC Fight Night 293 in Las Vegas.

Parsons’ return comes after a lengthy recovery from persistent hip and groin injuries that sidelined him for years, though he insists his current training regimen—developed at the UFC Performance Institute—has made him stronger and more disciplined at age 35. His UFC record remains slim (1-0), but he’s embracing the opportunity to prove his technical prowess and hard-hitting style, particularly against Souza, who has a history of quick comebacks in past fights.

Parsons has hinted that his layoff may have sharpened his skills, and he’s confident in his ability to dominate in the cage once again.
