Giants trading for quarterback J.J. McCarthy

New York has acquired quarterback J.J. McCarthy from Minnesota in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft choice. The addition addresses depth concerns following a season-ending injury to Jaxson Dart, positioning McCarthy to challenge Jameis Winston or serve as a secure reserve ahead of Jake Haener.

During his rookie campaign in 2025, McCarthy made ten starts for the Vikings, compiling a six-and-four record while completing 140 of 243 passing attempts for 57.6 percent, eleven touchdowns, and twelve interceptions. His debut year also featured multiple physical setbacks, including ankle, concussion, and hand ailments that cost him seven total games.
