British sprinter Matt Richardson has stepped aside from the Great Britain team ahead of the World Track Cycling Championships in Shanghai, where he was set to compete in three medal events. Richardson, 27, expressed disappointment over missing the October 14–18 competition but acknowledged the gravity of recent allegations, pledging full cooperation with British Cycling’s internal investigation.
The cyclist, who switched from Australia to represent Britain after winning two silvers and a bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics, had also been sidelined from the Commonwealth Games in July due to an earlier crash during a keirin event in Japan. British Cycling confirmed no public details about the investigation but emphasized its standard procedures for addressing such matters.
