Frank Reich points finger at himself for Jets’ miserable showing against Bears

October 9, 2026

New York Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich took full responsibility for the unit’s dismal performance in a 6–21 loss to the Chicago Bears, the team’s worst offensive output of the season. The Jets managed just 157 total yards and failed to capitalize on two defensive turnovers, settling for two field goals instead of extending drives.

Reich cited a 0-for-7 record on third downs as the primary issue, acknowledging that the offense’s inability to sustain momentum cost them against a Bears defense that stifled their usual balanced attack. The Jets entered the game without key starters Breece Hall (running back) and Adonai Mitchell (receiver), further limiting their offensive firepower, while injuries to players like Mason Taylor (tight end) and Jarvis Brownlee Jr.

(cornerback) added to the depth challenges. Reich also noted that the offense’s limited play count—just 32 total—left Isaiah Davis and Braelon Allen with minimal involvement, while tight end Mason Taylor showed signs of returning from injury after missing the past two games.

The Jets had averaged 21.3 points per game in their first three contests but were completely shut down by Chicago’s dominant rushing defense. Reich emphasized the need to match the Bears’ run-heavy approach but admitted the offense struggled to convert on critical downs, leaving them with little opportunity to apply sustained pressure.

With multiple starters sidelined—including offensive lineman Dylan Parham and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa—the Jets’ depth issues were exposed, setting up a tough road ahead for the offense in their next matchup.
