Clemson’s offense struggled mightily in a 37-0 shutout victory over Charleston Southern on Saturday, leaving former Tigers offensive lineman Eric Mac Lain frustrated by the Tigers’ inability to generate a single passing touchdown. Despite a clean pocket from the offensive line—surrendering zero sacks—the Clemson passing attack managed just two touchdown passes all season, finishing dead last in the FBS.
True freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds completed 17 of 26 passes for 127 yards, but the offense’s lack of aerial production was compounded by costly drops, including two missed catches by junior wide receiver T.J. Moore in the end zone on the opening drive.
Mac Lain, now an ACC Network analyst, called the touchdown drought ‘a little sad’ for a program with Clemson’s talent, especially after the team turned the ball over twice via interceptions from backup passers. The offense’s struggles extended beyond the stat sheet, with Moore and Bryant Wesco also dropping passes that could have extended Clemson’s scoring drought.
