Former NFL rushing touchdown leader attempting comeback with Patriots

Jamaal Williams is seeking a return to the NFL after a year away from the league, participating in a tryout with the New England Patriots. The veteran running back previously led the league in rushing scores during a 2022 campaign with the Detroit Lions, where he tallied 1,066 yards and 17 touchdowns.

He subsequently spent two seasons with the New Orleans Saints, recording 470 rushing yards and two touchdowns before his departure.

The Patriots are exploring depth options following a potential lower-body injury to Rhamondre Stevenson. Stevenson sustained the issue during the closing moments of a 29-26 win against the Buffalo Bills, leaving the field with trainers after a collision.

New England currently utilizes a backfield rotation that includes TreVeyon Henderson and Corey Kiner alongside Stevenson, with head coach Mike Vrabel overseeing the roster adjustments.
