The Pittsburgh Penguins made a roster adjustment Friday, placing defenseman Ilya Solovyov on waivers to clear space ahead of their next game. Solovyov, who has yet to dress for a single contest this season, is expected to remain a healthy scratch for the time being.
The move comes as the Penguins continue to navigate defensive challenges, having lost 5-3 to the Washington Capitals the previous night—a game in which Sidney Crosby posted a rare minus-4 rating. Meanwhile, the team’s recent trade activity included sending forward Filip Hallander to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Spencer Stastney, a versatile 26-year-old who brings added mobility to Pittsburgh’s blue line.
The Penguins also granted non-roster status to forward Andrei Kuzmenko, who played just two games before the decision, following the passing of his father in a tragic incident earlier this week.
