The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their second consecutive game to begin the new campaign on Thursday night, falling 3-2 in overtime against the visiting New Jersey Devils. Despite an overwhelming statistical disadvantage where New Jersey dominated shot attempts by a wide margin, Philadelphia salvaged their initial point of the season thanks largely to exceptional goaltending from Joseph Woll, who turned away 41 shots.
Rasmus Ristolainen and Travis Sanheim provided the scoring for Philadelphia, but the Devils ultimately secured the victory when Jack Hughes converted the game-winner in the extra session.
