Five takeaways from Utah's 41-24 win over Kansas

October 12, 2026

Utah’s offense dominated Kansas on Saturday, extending its unbeaten start with a 41-24 victory while exposing lingering defensive concerns. The Utes amassed 545 total yards, with a balanced attack featuring 287 rushing yards and 258 passing yards, including a perfect 5-for-5 conversion rate in the red zone.

Quarterback Devon Dampier adjusted mid-game, reducing turnovers and improving timing after an early fumble led to Kansas’ first touchdown. Running back Wayshawn Parker led the charge with 171 rushing yards and two touchdowns, capping his performance with a 90-yard fourth-quarter score that sealed the win.

The offense also benefited from standout contributions like Ricky Johnson’s five-catch, 104-yard performance and an unexpected highlight: offensive lineman Semi Taulanga hauling in a fourth-down touchdown on a well-executed play call.

Despite the offensive fireworks, Utah’s defense struggled against Kansas’ passing attack, allowing quarterback Isaiah Marshall to throw for 333 yards on 19 completions. The front four failed to generate consistent pressure, leaving Marshall ample time to exploit the secondary downfield.

However, Utah’s run defense remained elite, stifling Kansas to just 58 rushing yards on 21 attempts and forcing the Jayhawks to rely almost entirely on their passing game. The Utes’ ability to shut down the ground game while addressing pass-rush deficiencies will be critical as they move forward in a competitive season.
