LSU football secured a commanding 31-0 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday, turning in a complete team effort that included a stifling defense and a sharp offensive performance. Quarterback Sam Leavitt delivered his best game yet, throwing four touchdown passes without a turnover while managing a hamstring injury—finishing with 31 completions, 289 yards, and zero interceptions.
Running back Dilin Jones and wide receiver Jackson Harris both made significant impacts, with Jones accumulating 142 rushing yards and Harris hauling in six catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns. The win was critical for LSU, which entered the game with two losses and now stands at 5-2; a perfect finish to the regular season would all but lock them into the College Football Playoff, though a 9-3 record could still suffice if SEC teams underperform.
The Tigers’ defense, which had struggled in their previous outing against Kentucky, rebounded strongly, holding Mississippi State’s Parker Puckett to just 4.7 yards per attempt and limiting the Bulldogs to seven conversions on late downs. However, injuries continued to plague the team, as star defensive end Princewill Umanmielen and Harris both left the game early and did not return.
With key players like safety Da’Shawn Spears already out for the season, LSU’s depth will be tested in their upcoming road game at Auburn, where they’ll need younger players to step up before a bye week arrives in two weeks. The Tigers will look to build on this momentum as they head into November with three of four home games remaining.
