Fifa Laopakdee successfully defended his Asia-Pacific Amateur title at Te Arai Links, securing a three-stroke victory with a final round of 70. This win grants the 21-year-old Thai golfer entry into both the Masters and the British Open next year.
Laopakdee, who now joins Hideki Matsuyama as a repeat champion of the event, overcame a three-shot deficit during the final ten holes to overtake the leader. A pivotal four-shot swing occurred on the 11th hole when Laopakdee birdied and Zack Swanwick suffered a triple bogey.
Swanwick, a Florida junior playing in front of a home crowd, struggled to recover from that error and finished with a 75. Laopakdee also noted his anticipation for a practice round with Justin Rose at Augusta National.
