Chennai Super Kings have sparked controversy ahead of IPL 2027 by announcing they will enter the season without a dedicated batting coach, a decision former India opener Sadagoppan Ramesh has criticized as both surprising and strategically flawed. The franchise, which has won five IPL titles, has faced three straight playoff misses, including two seasons where their batting averaged just 178 runs per team—placing them last in the league for scoring.
Despite this, CSK has overhauled its coaching staff, retaining only Sridharan Sriram and James Foster while replacing long-serving batting coach Michael Hussey and head coach Stephen Fleming. The new setup heavily favors bowling expertise, with Zaheer Khan, Mohit Sharma, Albie Morkel, and Gareth Batty filling key roles, leaving no specialist to address the team’s persistent batting struggles.
