England's Donald ready to savour Welsh homecoming

Aneurin Donald is preparing to open the batting for England on Thursday in Cardiff, marking an emotional Welsh homecoming just days after his senior international debut. The 29-year-old earned his maiden cap on Tuesday, 15 September, during a 119-run win over Sri Lanka in Southampton, striking 12 runs off five deliveries in a contest where skipper Harry Brook blasted 114 not out from 49 balls and Jos Buttler chipped in with 80.

Donald became England's oldest specialist batting debutant in twenty-over internationals for nine years, as well as the first Glamorgan-developed cricketer to feature for the national team since Simon Jones in 2005.

A product of Swansea's Gorseinon club who once shared the world record for the quickest first-class double century after hitting 200 in Colwyn Bay back in 2015, Donald stepped into the top order alongside Buttler after fellow Welshman Phil Salt suffered an injury. He earned his national recall following strong domestic displays for Derbyshire in the T20 Blast alongside the Trent Rockets in the Hundred.

Ten years after serving as England under-19 captain, Donald will now fulfill his dream before a contingent of family and friends on home soil.
