The Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran quarterback Andy Dalton ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Jaguars in London. Dalton, who will turn 39 later this month, entered the game during Philadelphia’s loss to the Chicago Bears after starter Jalen Hurts left the field with an injury.
His lone pass attempt of the season resulted in an interception in the end zone. The Eagles will now rely on Tanner McKee, a 2023 sixth-round pick with limited experience, and rookie Cole Payton, who has yet to appear in a regular-season game, to fill the backup role.
Dalton, a three-time Pro Bowler, spent nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before playing for the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers during his career, accumulating 39,793 passing yards, 254 touchdowns, and 152 interceptions over his NFL tenure.
With Dalton now a free agent, the Minnesota Vikings emerge as a potential destination, given their recent trade of backup quarterback JJ McCarthy to the New York Giants. The Vikings could use Dalton as a veteran presence behind Kyler Murray, particularly with Carson Wentz stepping in effectively during Murray’s injury absence this season.
Dalton’s experience and leadership could provide stability in a deep quarterback room as he seeks a new opportunity.
