Bowen's late penalty saved as West Ham held by QPR

West Ham’s push for the Sky Bet Championship lead hit a dramatic stumbling block at Queens Park Rangers, as a late penalty miss sealed a 1-1 draw. QPR took the lead early through Nicolas Madsen, who scored from the penalty spot after a contentious foul by Tomas Soucek in the 18th minute.

The Hammers rallied in the final stretch, however, with Jarrod Bowen equalizing in the 90th minute after his initial shot was deflected away. His seventh goal of the season restored parity, but hope faded when Bowen’s 91st-minute penalty was denied by Pierce Charles, who saved the initial strike and then tipped Arne Engels’ follow-up over the bar.

The result leaves West Ham still in pursuit of the top spot, while QPR hold onto all three points from a hard-fought encounter.
