Dustin May has achieved a rare historical feat involving the last two World Series championship runs. After debuting in 2019 and winning with the Dodgers in 2020, May missed the 2024 season due to major arm and health procedures before beginning the 2025 campaign in Los Angeles.
He was subsequently dealt at the deadline to the Red Sox, only to join the Cardinals in free agency and later move via midseason trade to the Brewers, capturing another championship ring. According to data provided by the Elias Sports Bureau, this sequence makes May just the third player in Major League Baseball history to change clubs midseason in consecutive years while moving away from the eventual titlist in the first season and joining the eventual titlist in the second.
Previous instances of this unusual path were accomplished by Lee King in the early 1920s and Dal Maxvill in the 1970s. However, while King and Maxvill achieved their respective streaks by rejoining a franchise they had previously played for because the same club won back-to-back titles, May stands alone as the first to leave one eventual champion midseason and later join a completely different championship club midseason the following year.
