Doubles players sign open letter pleading with tennis chiefs to ‘protect’ format

Over 150 ATP doubles competitors have formally requested that tennis leadership abandon proposed modifications to the sport. These athletes argue that the suggested reductions to prize money and match frequency would jeopardize their ability to maintain viable professional careers.

The controversy stems from discussions held during the most recent Wimbledon tournament regarding a potential overhaul of the tour structure. If implemented by 2028, these changes would significantly restrict field sizes, limiting Masters 1000 events to 16 pairs and smaller 500 or 250 level tournaments to just eight teams.
