After being cut from the national performance squad and spending the pandemic working odd jobs in New Zealand, 31-year-old Mark Stewart has secured a gold medal at the World Track Cycling Championships. The Dundee native, who previously held two silvers and a bronze, triumphed in the 160-lap points race.
Having returned to the British Cycling setup ahead of the 2024 Olympics, Stewart noted that he had largely moved past the expectation of winning such a title. He maintains that the achievement, while personally significant, does not alter his perspective on his career or self-worth.
