Led by veteran DeWanna Bonner's impressive twenty-three points and nine rebounds, the fourth-seeded Atlanta Dream secured a ninety-two to eighty-two victory over the eighth-seeded New York Liberty in Game 1 of the WNBA semifinals. Despite losing leading scorer Allisha Gray to a hand injury and trailing earlier in the contest, Bonner inspired a massive third-quarter turnaround after delivering a fiery halftime pep talk to her teammates.
Head coach Karl Smekso praised the acquisition following the final buzzer, noting that the newcomer provided exactly the veteran spark and performance the franchise needed to move within two wins of reaching the WNBA Finals.
