The San Francisco 49ers have acquired defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a fourth-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft. This move marks a return to the franchise that originally selected him in the first round of the 2016 draft, where he remained until his departure following the 2019 season.
Buckner, who has recorded 31 tackles and four sacks during the current campaign, joins a 6-1 49ers squad as they look to bolster their defensive front. The Colts, currently holding a 2-5 record, are undergoing significant organizational shifts following the dismissal of general manager Chris Ballard.
The team also finalized a separate transaction sending Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks on the same day.
