Following a thirty-six to twenty-four victory over Florida State, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney fiercely criticized an aerial protest targeting Seminoles coach Mike Norvell. An airplane flew above the stadium before the contest bearing a banner that demanded the dismissal of Norvell and Peter Collins, though the display misspelled Norvell's surname.
In his postgame remarks, Swinney condemned the stunt as embarrassing, disrespectful, and unfair to the athletes on the field, while praising Norvell as a dedicated husband, father, and mentor.
The defeat dropped Florida State to three wins and five losses overall, while Clemson improved to five and three on the campaign thanks in part to a late seventy-nine-yard touchdown burst by quarterback Tait Reynolds. Norvell has faced escalating pressure in Tallahassee following a string of difficult seasons, culminating in the current downward trajectory after the program's undefeated regular season and Orange Bowl appearance a couple of years prior.
