Cowboys turning point: Costly false start opens door for stunning finish

The Dallas Cowboys suffered a heartbreaking 34-31 defeat after a late sequence of events unraveled their chances in Brazil. Trailing late, Dallas mounted a 96-yard drive capped by KaVontae Turpin scoring on a nine-yard run, which followed Jaishawn Barham stopping Derrick Henry on fourth down.

Luke Schoonmaker then committed a false start penalty at the two-yard line, turning first-and-goal into a longer distance. Following a Prescott scramble and an incomplete pass, Brandon Aubrey kicked a 23-yard field goal to knot the score with seven seconds remaining.

With no time left to spare after a touchback, Lamar Jackson connected with Zay Flowers for 27 yards, setting up Tyler Loop to drill a 56-yard game-winning field goal.
