Colorado Buffaloes Give True Freshman First Start Against Texas Tech

During a matchup on October 3, 2026, the Colorado Buffaloes suffered a 29-7 defeat against the twelfth-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado. Despite the final score, the contest provided a developmental milestone for freshman offensive lineman Xavier Payne, who stepped into his first career assignment guarding the blind side at left tackle.

Head coach Deion Sanders saw his squad challenged by Big 12 competition as the newcomer handled heavy responsibilities on the line, though team decisions regarding the lineup adjustment were not fully detailed since teammate Bo Hughely missed the injury report.
