College Football Program Abruptly Cut Ties With Coach Mid-Game Amid 30-Point Loss

Colorado State found itself searching for answers following a lopsided 56-26 defeat against Oregon State. During the contest, head coach Jim Mora decided to strip defensive coordinator Tyson Summers of play-calling responsibilities after the unit gave up a combined 100 points across the previous two matches.

Summers immediately walked away from the playing surface, prompting Mora to announce that his departure from the football program is permanent.

Following the unexpected mid-game firing, co-defensive coordinator Kenny McClendon was assigned to take over play-calling duties for the remainder of the contest. The Rams have now dropped three consecutive games after opening their debut Pac-12 season with two straight wins.

Summers previously served as the team's interim head coach during the 2025 campaign prior to the hiring of Mora.
